“Vishnu Purana” is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, a genre of ancient Indian texts that primarily focus on Hindu mythology, cosmology, and religious teachings. It primarily deals with the mythology, genealogy, and legends associated with the god Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hinduism.
విష్ణు పురాణం చిరంజీవి అయిన మార్కండేయ మహర్షిచే చెప్పబండింది. కృష్ణ వంశీయుడైన వజ్రుడు అను చక్రవర్తి సామంతరాజులు సంసేవిస్తున్న సమయంలో అక్కడకు వచ్చిన మహా ఋషులు, బ్రాహ్మణులు రాజును చూసి సనాతన వైష్ణవ ధర్మములు తెలుసుకొనుటకు వజ్రుడు అర్హుడని భావించి వైషవ ధర్మమును తెలుసుకొమ్మని చెప్పారు. వారి మాటలను విని వజ్రుడు వినమ్రుడై మునులను విష్ణు ధర్మము చెప్పమని ప్రార్థించాడు. వారు మార్కండేయ మహాముని వైష్ణ ధర్మములు చెప్పుటకు అర్హుడని భావించి అతడిని విష్ణు ధర్మము చెప్పమని కోరారు. సభాసదులు అందరూ వినుచుండగా వజ్రుడు మార్కండేయ మహార్హి సంవాదంగా విష్ణు పురాణం చెప్పబడింది.
